  1. System Requirements, Installation

DocuMonitor is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2000, NT4, Me.

1-1. Install

Log on as an administrator, run setup to install.

Program files will be installed to the folder user selected, document data files will be created/updated at User account \ Local Application Data \ Eastbow \ DocuMonitor \ folder.

DocuMonitor will be installed as a start-up program by default.

1-2. Uninstall

If you want to uninstall DocuMonitor, close DocuMonitor, Select Uninstall DocuMonitor from Start > Programs > DocuMonitor menu or you can also uninstall it from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

1-3. Update

To update current DocuMonitor with a new version, close currently running DocuMonitor, install new setup to the existing DocuMonitor folder. The existing options and document data will be maintained even if you install a new version.

Note for updating version 6.x.x to 7.x.x:

The internal data folder location has been changed from version 7.x.x. To use the previous document data files in the new version,

  1. Uninstall old version
  2. Install new version
  3. Copy all files in Program's folder\data\ to User account folder \ Local Application Data \ Eastbow \ DocuMonitor \.
  4. Launch new version

Existing customers: Please do not update with the trial version. Get the registered version by submitting your license information.

2-1. Registration

To monitor documents, you need to register document data first.

2-1-2. Checking method

  • Simple comparison

    Simply compares the entire content of document from the start to the end.

  • Count for a specific string

    Compares the count of a specific string in the Web page. In most cases, the string must be extracted from the source code of the Web page.

  • Middle string comparison

    Compares a portion of the Web page defined by the first and last strings. These strings are must be unique in the Web page and in most cases, must be extracted from the source code of the Web page.

To edit existing document data, right-click on the document in the main window, select Properties... in the context menu.

2-2. Checking

2-2-1. Document status

DocuMonitor has 4 document status.

Ready

A new document has inserted to the DocuMonitor and it's content is downloaded, ready to be monitored.

Checked

A document has been checked for change and no change found, ready to be monitored again.

Changed

A document's content has been changed. DocuMonitor will not check this document again until you open or mark it to Checked status manually.

Unable to retrieve

DocuMonitor has failed to retrieve the document content for some reason - file removed, server down, network down. However, it will be checked again at the next checking time.

To check document manually, select documents in the main window, click Check! toolbar button.

2-2-3. Automatic checking

To check document automatically, periodically, set an automatic checking option at File > Options in the menu.

2-2-4. Confirming changes

Once the document's status has changed to Changed , you need to confirm it and mark it as Checked to continue monitoring.

  • Open document

    Double-click document and open the document to see the content directly.

  • Seeing content header, compared data

    Select changed document in the main window, select View > Content Header or Compared Data in the menu.

    Content Header contains only the first portion of the document. Compared Data contains the portion that actually compared by the DocuMonitor.

  • Mark as Checked

    Once you confirm the changes, to continue monitoring, mark the document as Checked by selecting Edit > Mark as Checked in the menu (or in the context menu).

    If you want to change the document status to Checked automatically when you open the document, check an option in File > Options in the menu, Misc. section.

2-3. Notification

In File > Options, you can select basic notification methods for detecting changed, unable to retrieve documents.

In addition to the basic methods, DocuMonitor provides balloon tip displaying and blinking tray icon when the program is minimized.

Balloon tip will be displayed periodically until you activate the DocuMonitor.

  1. Misc. Options

3-1. Multiple fetching/comparison thread

DocuMonitor supports multiple thread for fetching and comparison documents. In File > Options menu, you can select 1 to 5 thread to speed up monitoring process but note the increased thread will occupy more system resources and network bandwidth.
